We Were "Special Frieeeeends"
So this past sunday in church the sermon was on how people are not looking for a friendly church but they are looking for friends, and that inturn makes the church friendly not to be misunderstood. Anyhow the verse came from Proverbs 17:17 ("A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.") and another one of my favorites Proverbs 18:24 ("Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.").
These verses got me to thinking and remembering all my friends and esp those close friends from my days at caswell. It was always shared among several of the guys the verse from Prov 18:24 in that the brotherhood made working there is a true friendship and that it's so strong that we become family...however all of this reminded me as well of way back when You and I started dating. Do you remember, it was that period where we dating but hadn't yet given ourselves the title of being exclusive gf & bf...yet you said that I was your "special frieeeeend" with a smile and an added little twang in your voice. I guess that went on for the longest time, and over time as we would say that we were "special frieeeends" we coined another favorite phrase of Try Hard and Love Jesus, Love Rob and "L" Jess. Now we both knew that the "L" Jess was implying love as well but for me it wasn't exactly the right time for me to honestly drop the "L" word on our relationship. Although who was I fooling I knew exactly how my heart and mind felt and all it took was the way you looked at me. There was just something about you that I had never seen in anyone else that I had ever dated, you had this look in your eyes when you looked at me and I knew that w/out a doubt it was your heart looking at me. Do you remember the look I'm talking about? I know it's been such a long time since you've prob even thought about looking at me that way but I guess it's one of those things that left a lasting impression on me.
However I guess the coolest thing about the look is that it wasn't just me seeing how she looked at me, but even others could see it and could tell that it was something special. Even still there is something I found even better than others being able to see , and this is where it really makes a lasting impression, but the camera could see it to. So naturally it is one of my all time favorite pictures of us together. Maybe YOU can see it, it's a look that just shows how her heart was excited (lol do you remember the butterfly's, you used to get them all the time right before we would be spending time together), how quirky and fun we were but also how passionate and caring you were and most of all it showed the love that your heart was overflowing with and it captivated me every time, just something about starring into those eyes.
So it was these verses that were preached on sunday that just reminded me that people are looking for friends all over this world. Friends are how we share the gospel , how we cross cultures, how we get through hard times, how we celebrate "awesome!" times, and friends are how we find that one individual who as scripture says, will stick closer than family. However I believe on certain few are ever able to be "special frieeends."
That is what we were, "Special Frieeends"
